PDF--A
Look Inside -
For the Seybold Seminar New York/Publishing 98, James C.
King (principal Scientist for Adobe Systems, Inc.) published
a presentation and set of examples introducing the nuts and
bolts of the PDF format.:
- The slides with annotations on each slide for you to
open and read while within the Acrobat Reader. (420
KB)
- The annotations in their own file, which can be read
on a second screen or printed out onto paper to read
while looking at the above PDF document. (67 KB)
- (For the really interested.) The example PDF files: A
compressed file (16 KB) containing all of the examples
(23 files). You might want these in order to try your own
experiments by changing the code and viewing the results.
You can decompress this file using, among other things,
WinZip and Stuffit Expander.
PDF--It
Works! -
This is a special website offered by the folks at Extensis.
It is used to support their trade show PDF Workflow
Pavilion (Seybold Seminars, NY - March, 1998). To quote
them:
"By adopting PDF as a universal file format for
entire print production workflows, industry leaders are
committing to a solution that is application, platform,
network and output device independent" said Mary
Sommerset, a senior product marketing manager at
Extensis. "The result is an improved digital workflow
that ensures greater flexibility, reliability and
increased performance.
"We've gathered PDF Innovators Adobe, Agfa, Apple,
Creo, Scitex and Tektronix -- to showcase an Adobe PDF
workflow through a multi-vendor digital imaging
system.
Industry leaders are adopting PDF to be the digital
master for the entire print production workflow. Just as
PostScript granted output independence to the production
workflow, PDF grants page independence to the digital
imaging workflow. In fact, PDF even frees the original
application from the process. The resulting independence
across applications, platforms, networks and output
devices guarantees consistency and reliability."
