Acrobat GUIDE -
This is a fully indexed 1.6Mb PDF file distributed by Adobe. In this guide, you will find products and services grouped in categories for a variety of uses--from document management to consulting services to internet services. Of special interest in this Winter/Spring1997 issue is a list of international third-party vendors. This guide will help you explore all the available products and services compatible with Acrobat software.

Adobe 3rd Party Directory
A PDF file is available online that features descriptions and weblinks to major vendors providing products and services relevant to the evolution of PDF and Electronic Document Systems.

Adobe Download Site
Here is a good site for finding out if there are any new downloadable versions available for Acrobat components as well as any other Adobe product.

Adobe pdfmarks Reference Guide -
Adobe has created a reference guide specific to the subject of pdfmarks. It can be downloaded as a PDF file (78K).

Blueworld's Acrobat User Forum
This is one of the two best Acrobat lists on the internet. The other being PDFzone (which is generally busier and more technical).

Deja News
DejaNews has forums on a very broad spectrum of topics. However, its forums do not operate the way PDFZone or Blueworld do (which operate through your emailer). Instead, you access Deja News' forums on the web and reply to messages via your browser. I prefer using the emailer, but that's my "humble opinion." At any rate, they have a very active forum on the PDF format called comp.text.pdf. To subscribe, go to their New User page and then Register. You can then proceed to the Add Forums area where you can enter comp.text.pdf as the forum you wish to add.

Glyphica -
Consultancy and services provider for corporate PDF implementation. Glyphica has just started (10/1/97) the publication of a monthly webzine called PurePDF which offers a good source of breaking information, Tips and Tricks and success stories on the use of PDF.

Guru's Lair - Acrobat Library Shelf Directory
This library shelf gives you the key tutorials and utilities you'll need to use and apply net-friendly Acrobat 3.0.

Imagebiz -
Homesite for access to Adobe Capture® lab tests and the studies of Tony McKinley, author of From Paper to Web. This book is also available on-line as a series of PDF files linked to this site.

Imaging World Magazine
A repository for all of the latest information on developments in the imaging and EDS world.

INFOCON AMERICA
This company takes a whole installation view of PDF publishing solutions. It represents products like Pitstop™, Infolink™, and EasyView™, and provides website, training, discount software pricing, and installation support through its partner company relationships.

Internet Publishing with Acrobat -
Companion site for a comprehensive book written by Gorden Kent on the subject of publishing on the internet using Acrobat 3.0 PDF files. There is an on-line PDF version of the 400 page book ready for download (2135K).

Michael Jahn
Perhaps the most informed expert on the subject of pre-press application of the PDF format is Michael Jahn, PDF Evangelist (actual title!) of AGFA. His email address is michael_jahn@agfa.com. He has his own website where he has published:

  1. Michael Jahn's PDF WorkFlow presentation (PDF 1.1Mb)
  2. AGFA's How to Distill brochure (PDF 83K)

Octavo -
If you assume that only crisp and clean text documents can (or should be) archived using this technology, take a look at the work being done by Octavo. This company specializes in archiving old book and rare manuscripts in their original form, preserving the look of the original paper text and binding. They use sophisticated cameras and Acrobat for compressing storing and distributing the finished work. These are necessarily larger than usual files, but the benefits are obvious. See a PDF sample (5 pages, 1170K) of Shakespeare poems.

PDF Directory -
A listing of self-described Acrobat implementers broken down into categories including: Government, Business, Organization, Education, People, and Services.

PDF Solutions -
A U.K.-based service providing PDF Workflow consultation - primarily for prepress implementations.

PDFzone-
This excellent site contains descriptions of all software, including 3rd party plug-ins and demos, that is currently available to augment PDF implementations. It is also the home of PDF Forums where users can upload their concerns and questions and get answers from users at large.

PDF Zone User Forum
This is one of the two best Acrobat lists on the internet (the other being Blueworld). It appears to be the busiest with over 2000 subscribers.

RTS PlanetPDF -
Round Table Solutions offers a website to showcase their specific plug-in products for Adobe Acrobat. Additionally, they offer a PDFhotlinks signup listing of contacts interested in networking to help address the challenges of working with Acrobat PDF technology. ARTS Code Cuts offers invaluable PDF scripts, command line codes, news and technical resources for Acrobat developers and the technically inclined.

VectorVille -
Shows what you can do with a little focused passion. Vectorville is a production of Bezier, Inc., Ted and Jennifer Alspach's company located in Cave Creek, AZ. Ted is a vector evangelist and the author of numerous books regaling the virtues of vector graphics. Notably, for the purposes of this site, he wrote the Visual Quickstart Guide to Adobe Acrobat for PeachPit Press.

Xplor International
This Torrance, CA based company offers a wealth of advice on EDS (Electronic Document Systems). Run by Dr. Keith Davidson, Xplor serves as a membership group that even evaluates the professional standing of its members and confers the coveted EDPP degree designation on those meeting the requirements for experience, dedication and scholarship in the field of EDS.
