Performance Graphics creates interactive CD-ROM of a Xerox DocuPrint Technical Manual using Adobe Products

Performance Graphics of Studio City, CA has produced a CD-ROM for Xerox Corporation of El Segundo, CA. The title of the CD-ROM is "Xerox DocuPrint NPS/IPS Interactive Customer Documentation."

The production involved Adobe Acrobat conversion of 46 Adobe FrameMaker books (with table of contents and indexes) comprising over 4,000 total pages. Documents featured many vector drawings and bitmap graphics. These books are normally printed and distributed as a series of six 3-inch, multi-tabbed binders. They are now published as a single interactive, cross-platform CD-ROM and are optimized for eventual byteserve distribution over the internet.

Performance Graphics was responsible for:

  1. building a simple navigational interface
  2. converting the FrameMaker 5.5 books into fully hyperlinked and bookmarked PDF files
  3. assuring the documents look the same on-screen as they do in the printed page version
  4. creating a simple "How to Use this Guide" document
  5. indexing and cataloging all documents for cross-document, full-text searchability
  6. recommending and adding enhancements (like a web-linked "Xerox Website Information" page of links and a "Reader's Comments" form document)
  7. writing the documents to cross-platform CD-ROMs for testing on Macintosh, Windows, and UNIX computers.

The entire production took two months from prototype to completion. Used in the production were Adobe FrameMaker 5.5, Illustrator 7.0, PhotoShop 4.01, and Adobe Acrobat 3.01 on a Macintosh G3 computer.
